A timely musical salve for a divided nation in a historically uncivil election season, “Cold Beer and Common Sense” reminds us that most Americans have more shared values than political differences. Where differences exist, Hatcher sings, “Let’s agree to disagree,” and even the mid-tempo tune’s warm, acoustic-led production harkens back to simpler, less strident times.
“Cold Beer and Common Sense” was co-written by Michael Wilkes, Styles Haury (Luke Bryan’s “Country On”), Jay Clementi, and Lance Miller (Tim McGraw’s “I Called Mama”).
Produced by Jason Sellers, Ilya Toshinskiy (Jelly Roll) and Mickey Jack Cones (Joe Nichols, Thomas Rhett), the Cold Beer and Common Sense three-pack also includes “Leave This Town,” a swooning song about how falling for a local girl can make an adventurous young man think twice about wanting to quit his small hometown. Plus, “Has Anybody Ever,” a toe-tapper that sees Hatcher asking a new sweetheart how well she's been loved in the past.
Dubbed the “String King” by his hometown newspaper in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Hatcher made a triumphant return to the stage yesterday (Oct. 17) in Edinburg, Virginia, just three weeks after surviving a 20-foot fall while working on the roof of his home.
On Sept. 23, Hatcher was immediately airlifted to UVA Health University Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was told he’d fractured his pelvis in three places and chipped two pieces of bone, broken three ribs, and suffered a pulmonary contusion to his right lung. But the doctors said it was a miracle that he didn’t sustain any head or spinal injuries and is expected to make a full recovery within three months.
“I feel like I’ve experienced two miracles in just one month,” reflects Hatcher. “First, surviving a two-story fall, which I truly believe was the hand of God, and second, signing a record deal, which I realize is something that most artists never get to do. I’m really proud of the three songs on my debut project for Stone Country Records and I hope that Cold Beer and Common Sense can help us all find some common ground this election season.”
A bluegrass-influenced country traditionalist, Hatcher amassed more than 850,000 social media followers before signing with Stone Country Records.
